Saint Nicholas (255-334) commonly known as Santa Claus was the bishop of Myra, Turkey in the fourth century AD. He is revered all around the world for his exemplary benevolence. In the eleventh century after southern Turkey had been conquered by the Saracens 62 Italian Sailors from Bari set out to steal San Nicola's remains from their tomb in Myra. Their mission was successful and in April 1087 Saint Nicola was brought to Bari and hence became Bari's Patron Saint.
Every year in the annual Festi di San Nicola, in Bari, reenacts the arrival of San Nicola's remains with processions and the ritual transporting of the Statue of San Nicola to and from the sea.
Photo Tours Italia conducts it's tours in the midst of the festival. We take you behind the scenes to photograph the festival preparations and people of Bari. We are your chauffeurs, guides and photographic mentors all on one tour.
